Lessons To My Son
Nobody owes you anything. You have to earn it, every day.
When shaking a man’s hand, be firm but not overpowering
Never shake a man’s hand sitting down.
When shaking a woman’s hand, be firm but gentle. You don’t need to show her how strong you are, just that you are the man.
Always make eye contact when talking to someone.
How you do one thing, is how you will do everything. Do everything with integrity and give it your all.
Always open the door for women and the elderly.
Always give up your seat for women and the elderly.
Never let your girl walk on the outside of you near the street.
Always scan for threats no matter where you are, and make sure you know how to exit every room with a plan.
Always try to first de-escalate a confrontation before it turns physical. Know your limits.
If you drink, NEVER drive.
If you choose to drink, know your limits. Pace yourself, and always have 1 glass of water for every drink you have. You will thank you in the morning.
When you have to be somewhere at a certain time, show up at least 7 minutes early. Otherwise, you are LATE.
Never let a girl pay.
Don’t try to impress girls with money and material things. It will attract the wrong girls.
Work hard to never lose a woman's respect. Once she truly loses respect for you, she will never love you the same.
Remember that 30 seconds can change your entire life. Be smart.
Tell the truth even when it’s difficult. One lie turns to100 lies. The guilt will consume you.
Outwork your competition in everything you do. Hardwork beats talent every time.
Never allow yourself to give up. Your mind is more powerful than your body. You can do much more than you think you are capable of.
Don’t speak negative words about yourself. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what isn’t. It will believe the words you are saying.
In a negotiation, never take the first offer. Always try to get them to give a number first.
Don’t ever let someone disrespect you, especially in front of others.
When entrusted with a secret, keep it. Your word is your bond.
Return a borrowed car cleaner than you got it, and always with a full tank of gas.
Make your bed every morning. It starts your day off with discipline.
Always tip generously.
Play with passion or don’t play at all.
Always protect your family members. Especially your sister.
You marry the girl, you marry her family. So pay attention to who they are. May not seem important now, but it is.
Don’t publicly show fear and frustration. Remain calm on the outside.
If you face a problem, try every possible way to solve it. Research and learn on your own before asking for help.
If you screw up, find a solution to fix it or at least make it better.
Don’t make excuses. Own your mistakes without passing the blame on others.
Treat women with respect and always be gentle. They aren’t one of the boys.
Don’t gossip about others, it will always come back on you.
Build other people up when they need it.
Help others without expecting anything in return.
If you give a loan to a friend, have the expectation that it will never be paid back. It probably won’t. This will save friendships.
Choose your friends wisely, you are the average of the 5 people you hang with.
Live within your means. Don’t spend more than you make. If you want to spend more, simply make more.
The loudest person in the room is usually the weakest.
Never let a woman pump her own gas.
Never leave your gas tank on E.
Always offer a woman your jacket if she’s cold.
Make decisions for women, they like that.
When you commit to something, follow through no matter what.
Do what needs to be done to get the job done, regardless of what the job is.
Make sure to control your mind and emotions, otherwise your mind and emotions will control you.
Always dress one level above what is expected for an occasion. It makes you stand out and immediately demands respect.
Never be intimidated or afraid to talk to the best looking girl in the room. Every other guy is, trust me.
Never turn down a breath mint or gum. It might be getting offered to you for a reason.
Stand on principle. Do what is right, and don’t conform to society.
Be kind to the new person.
Remember that words hurt and stick with us forever. Don’t say things you don’t mean.
If you have to apologize, apologize quickly and genuinely.
Believe in yourself even if it feels like no one else believes in you.
See the good in people, and always be forgiving. God doesn’t hold grudges, so why should you?
Girls watch how you treat the lowest people in public, so treat them with kindness and respect. It shows a lot about your character.
After writing an angry email or text, read it carefully. Then delete it. It’s honestly never worth it.
If an argument won’t matter in 5 days, don't give it 5 seconds of wasted energy.
If something sounds too good to be true, it is. Move on.
Never discuss family business outside of your family. Deal with those issues privately, not publicly.
Never forget to call your mom and check in on her, no matter how old you get.
Remember to spend time with your grandparents while you still have the chance. They have a lifetime of knowledge to share with you.
Manners make the man in every environment.
Give credit where it is due, no matter the circumstances and no matter who you have to give credit to!
Take the blame when needed.
Stand up to Bullies. Protect people being bullied.
Write down your dreams daily.
Remember at times the rain must fall for us to appreciate the sun. But the sun will always come.
Be confident yet humble at the same time. Don’t brag. People hate braggers.
Don’t always take sides. Be the bridge builder for people.
If ever in doubt, remember whose SON you are and REFUSE to just be ordinary!
